Did you know that there are alternatives to placing your PDF and Excel files into the IFS?
n Some companies prefer to place these files onto a file server. This gives non-AS400 users access to the files (if needed). The files can be easily included with their server backups. There are few additional setup steps in order to do this. Contact our support team at 866-378-3366 or 678-417-1521 to learn how.
n You also have the option to place the files onto a Linux server. Again, this takes some additional setup that our support team would be happy to assist you with.
n You also have the option to place them directly onto a user's PC desktop. As soon as SpoolFlex has created the files, they appear on a user's PC desktop.

Here is a tip many companies find useful:
Instead of emailing the actual reports to individual users, you can create the PDF or Excel files and place them into the IFS or your file server and only e-mail a link to individual users. The e-mail message can be as simple as Your daily xyz report is now available, click the link below to access the report with a link to the file included. This greatly reduces the amount of bandwidth going through your mail server. You can place the actual link in the e-mail message by using the variable value *LINK in your e-mail message.

Q: Is there a way to shade some detail lines in a form?
A: Yes. In FormFlex you can create a shaded box and apply conditions so that only selected detail lines will have shaded background. This also involves mapping spool data.

Q: I am using FormFlex to create a form, and I want to use a bullet in an address line. How do I create a bullet?
A: In FormFlex, a bullet is created just like any other text object. While in Form Design, use option 2=Edit Detail for the form definition in which you want to add a bullet. Press F6 to create a text object. Select Windings in the font field, and in the text field type in a lowercase L.

SpoolFlex Advanced Training

Excel Definition using Shift Lines option: This class will demonstrate how to take care of page formats, so that all of your data will appear on the Excel spreadsheet. This is a short class that is designed for users who already have experience creating Output Definition and now would like to learn about Shift Lines option.

FormFlex (the native iSeries software) lets you print electronic forms and checks on standard HP-compatible laser printers using plain-cut sheet paper. It also allows you to copy them to PDF to automatically e-mail, fax, and electronically file to network file servers. No PC hardware or custom programming is required.

ReportFlex allows you to reformat reports into easy-to-read and easy-to-manage reports without any programming. Its features include changing column headings, inserting lines, and inserting page breaks.

eSign, an electronic signature software, allows you to electronically sign your documents to print on laser printers.
