I recently heard a great example of the benefits of using message monitoring software. This is exactly what we were told: End of day reports did not finish yesterday, so we had to open late today. This has happened a few times recently, and it's unacceptable. It would be nice to know that it did not finish, but when no one is here, you just don't know. I think MessageFlex is just what we need."

Are you encrypting your back up tapes?
Encryption of personal and confidential information has been a big topic over the past few years. It is hard to believe that there are so many companies still not encrypting the daily backup tapes. Do you work for one of those companies? Everyone should be taking precautions to secure their customers' personal information as well as their own companys confidential information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers, and banking information. The list of the information that, if lost, misplaced, or stolen, can cause your company big problems goes on and on. The lost data does not have to be used; simply the fact that it is out of your control is enough to be concerned.
We are currently in the process of partnering with a well-known company to become a reseller of AS/400, iSeries backup encryption software. If we complete the partnership, we will be able to offer AS/400, iSeries backup encryption software to our customers at a greatly reduced price (possibly around $2,995). The solution is 100% software-based (no hardware to purchase) and very easy to use. You will simply replace your existing save library commands with a new command that encrypts the libraries as the backup is done. If your backup tapes fall into the wrong hands they cannot retrieve the information without the same software and encryption key that was used during the save operation.

Update Instructions Follow these instructions to upgrade your SpoolFlex/FormFlex software.

You want it? you got it; New API for purging the SpoolFlex Audit Trail entries. The new Purge Audit Trail API (SFAPRGAT) allows you to specify the age of entries to be purged and an email address to send the purge report to.

Example:
SFAPRGAT PRGDAYS(730) PRGLOGENT(*YES) PRGIFSDOC(*YES) EMLPRGRPT(FRANK@DRVTECH.COM)

This example will purge all entries and documents older than 2 years (730 days) and send the purge report (report of all purged entries) to frank. This API can be automated simply by placing it into a spool Sentry and scheduling it to run at regular intervals.

Q: Can SpoolFlex e-mail work with servers that require SMTP authentication?
A: Yes. As of version 4.3.2 if you are running OS v5r2 or newer, SpoolFlex can authenticate to any email server.

Q: Can I easily e-mail multiple files to someone in a PDF format?
A: Yes. If you are running v4 e-mail you can place an E next to several spool files in Manage Spooled Files and send them all to one user.

Q: Can I convert a file to a location other than the IFS on my AS400/iSeries?
A: Yes. You can convert files and place them on either a Windows-based file server, or Linux-based machine. Please contact support for assistance.
