SpoolFlex Report Distribution has additional PDF password Security options: In the current version, there are now additional options for adding password protection to PDF files being distributed via email:
- Constant value can be assigned to password protect PDF files being distributed
- The password can be retrieved from either the User Defaults or an Address Book Entry based on the sender or the intended recipient
- The password can be created dynamically by retrieving a value from the spool page and optionally adding a prefix and/or a suffix to it

- What are the limitations of the spooled file (width and length) that SpoolFlex has for converting it to PDF or Excel?
Answer: Spoolflex doesn’t have any limitations, but IBM limits a spooled file to 378 characters wide and Excel, prior to Excel 2007, has a limit of 65,000 rows. Excel has raised the limit with Excel 2007 to over 1 million rows.
- How can I print out definitions that have been created in Spoolflex?
Answer: You can query:
SFRDS file to get a list of report distributions
SFOUT file for the output definitions
SFSNTH file for the spool sentry definitions

Tip of the month

If you want to put an image into a *PDF output definition or into a FormFlex overlay, then use an image with 300 DPI or better.

I would like to start off by saying thank you for your patience during our recent move, when we encountered some technical issues with our phone and internet service. We are now completely moved into our new offices and have all of the technical issues resolved.

We have now released version 4.0 of our software. For those of you who have downloaded it, you should see some great enhancements. Most noticeable is the new email rewrite that now allows a much easier setup and configuration. The new email now supports long file names for attachments, and it eliminates the requirement of IBM SMTP and MSF servers and Distribution Directories. With the release of V4 we now find ourselves planning for V5. We will be having meetings and going over previously requested enhancements to determine what will be included in V5. If you have any ideas, suggestions or thoughts of what you would like to see added please email me at rvoss@drvtech.com and I will make sure your input is included in these discussions.
