The 20th annual Northeast User Groups conference will be held on April 12th, 13th and 14th at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel in Framingham, MA.
The eight user groups of the Northeast, from the states of CT, ME, MA, NH, NY, RI, and VT, have joined together to host the yearly IBM Power Systems technical conference in Framingham, MA. Each year's conference is held in early spring, and consists of approximately 100 sessions, 20 speakers (from both IBM and the i community), hundreds of attendees, and over 20 vendor sponsors. The conference covers a variety of technical subjects and may include seminars, workshops, and hands-on labs.

We will be there, and we hope to see you there as well!

 News From the Lab

Current version 4.7.0 was released on March 24, 2010.
Enhancement List See what's new in the latest version.
Update Instructions Follow instructions to upgrade your SpoolFlex/FormFlex software.

Enhancements to conversion to Excel
The new, improved method for creating an Output Definition (template) for Excel files has been included in version 4.7.0. The new version includes more user-friendly screens and a different method for defining where the column headings for your report are located. With the old method, you defined the location by specifying the line number and the number of column heading lines. See Figure 1 for an example of an old method and Figure 2 for an example of the new method.

Figure 1: The old method of defining the column heading location using the actual line number and number of lines.

With the new method, you define the column heading location by specifying an actual column heading.

In Figure 2, the report is defined to have Request Number as one of the column headings on the report. You can use F10 to view your spooled file and select an actual column heading from your report. This ensures you get a consistent conversion -- especially for those reports on which the column headings may move up or down on the spool page (floating column headings).

 Answers to Your Questions

Q: I’m converting files to a Windows file server. Is there an easier way to do so than typing out the full /QNTC/SERVER1/CDRIVE share name in each definition?
A: Yes. You can use a feature called a Path Definition. You can create an alias for a path, so instead of the full QNTC name, you call something like CDRIVE for your directory and it will auto-populate the full path from the path definition.

Q: I am creating a check form on which I want to print an electronic signature. In FormFlex, is there a way to print a signature for certain amount only?
A: Yes. FormFlex allows you to print a signature conditionally. For example, if you do not want the signature to print on checks that have an amount of more than $5,000 you can apply a condition on that signature.
